2013 TIBF Junior Championship TournamentSunday August 4, 2013 on Cascade Reservoir
Our fishing weekend started on Friday with a dinner of fish tacos provided by Hop Sing (Davanh). What an unbelievable talent for cooking Hop has! He made enough to feed about 15 folks and we ate until we were stuffed. Saturday was a practice day to fish with anybody, and most of our competitors were on the water for a beautiful day in Cascade. A slight breeze with 80 degree temperatures made it a perfect day. While some kids reported finding some good fish, most found the fishing to be a bit on the tough side. Saturday evening we gathered everybody for a pulled pork BBQ with lots of sides. Thank you to everybody who contributed to this dinner, and especially our sponsors; Smoky Davis Meats and The Window Welder.
We covered the tournament rules with the contestants and answered questions about the format. The boater draw was held and that was followed by a draw for the older age group contestants. After this, we passed out T-shirts and baits supplied by Dry Creek Baits and Canyon Marine. These gifts totaled about $100 for each contestant, and I can't say thank you enough for our sponsors.
Sunday morning we met at 5am for coffee, hot chocolate and muffins all supplied by Treasure Valley Coffee. Thanks to them, most of the adults and contestants had something warm in them to brave the 48 degree run down the lake. After the national anthem, blast off occurred at 6:15 and the competition began!
Weigh in was held at 2pm and brought mixed results for the youth. The fishing had definitely slowed from what it was two weeks prior. We used 9 observers for the tournament day, and my hat is off to them for sitting in the boats, eating Oreos and making conversation. Thank you! The boat Captains also returned unscathed to the ramp, worn out and overheated from the 90 degree temperatures. My thanks to all our boaters; Randy Miller, Hop Sing, Burt Roberts, Steve and Melba Spear, Tony and Tammy Shuyler, Tarry Gibson, Jason Hickey, Josh Polfer, Ernie and Julie Davis, Chris Horton and Bruce Fleisher. Thank you again for the dedication to our future of fishing in Idaho.

From the comments of the youth after the tournament, it sounds like the event was a success, and I would like to thank everybody who gave of themselves so freely to help promote our youth in the sport we love so much.
