Bill Reece at Black Sands is ready for us and he mentioned he has his fingers crossed he will have his new store up and running April 1. Food, Beverage and tackle (Dry Creek Outfitters) will be in supply. All Anglers must be an active 2022 TBF Member in an Idaho affiliated club. Active membership will be verified prior to tournament day. I know of three Boaters looking for Co-Anglers. Text Tammy at 208-484-9278 if Boaters or Co’s are looking for partners. This is the Qualifier that will send you to Dworshak Res. October 1-2, 2022. Who's ready to go fishing!!Idaho TBF is sending two Anglers, Jason Fuller- Boater and Guy Blahus – Co-Angler, to Lake Conroe, Texas, the end of this month for TBF Nationals. They will be receiving travel funds, $1000 for Jason as Boater and $500 to Guy as Co-Angler, as well as custom jerseys from Idaho TBF. They also receive stipend funds directly from TBF toward rooms. Be sure to wish them well and an update will provided after the conclusion of their event.
Idaho TBF is seeking interested members for Tournament Director and Conservation Director. Interested members should contact a Board Member or Club President for further information. Also, couple of you have mentioned receiving an odd, scam email from me looking for funds. PLEASE IGNORE AND DELETE. I am not looking for gift cards to send to the Idaho Veterans, although it is a very worthy cause.
Thank you for all that you do and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, suggestions and feedback!

Hi Folks! There are changes in The Idaho Bass Federation qualifier and Semi-Final Championship tournaments. They are as follows: April 2 & 3, 2022, CJ Strike - Qualifier. This will be the only qualifier tournament for TIBF which is a two day, combined weight tournament. The May qualifier dates are eliminated due to inability to reserve campground spaces at Owyhee. McCormack Campground is closed for construction through end of May, 2022, which leaves Indian Creek as only campground available to book and all spaces are reserved on May 21-,22 weekend. The 2022 TBF ID-MT Semi-Final Championship is rescheduled to Oct. 1 & 2, 2022, from 9/24-9/25. A 10 boat club also applied for a tournament permit at Dworshak Reservoir and that club was not willing to share with TIBF. Fortunately, all the stars lined up ie. F&G, Corp of Engineer Event Permit and Best Western Motel allowing TIBF to reschedule. The other news is regretfully, The Scales of Justice event, due to a County Commissioner decision, will no longer be held which means this year's event is cancelled at CJ Strike on 10/2/22. This will open up a couple of dates for clubs if still looking for tournament water. Thank you to Chris Tucker for compiling the tournament schedule spreadsheet. These changes will need to be noted on his spreadsheet. Looks like it is going to be a busy tournament season this year! I have been working with Hailee at Idaho Fish & Game who is doing an awesome job issuing permits and working out conflicts. I can't emphasize enough how important Idaho Fish and Game is to our bass fishing community and that whenever possible, in case of conflict, that all tournament sponsors, clubs or otherwise, make every effort to work out a workable solution when date conflicts arise. Sharing water is always a good viable solution even with larger groups. It can be readily done and I have seen it work just fine with a bit of planning and patience. Good job to those that have worked things out this year so far. Stay safe and healthy out there Anglers! TIBF looks forward to seeing you on the water! Tight lines!
Thank you!

The 2022 TIBF Banquet tentatively scheduled for February 19 has been postponed to 2023. The Board was hopeful to hold this awesome event which has always been a terrific time to acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments of TBF member anglers including adult and youth, plan for the year, enjoy comraderie and do a little fundraising. A lot of time and effort are spent on making this event a worthwhile occasion for all to attend. However, due to short time to plan and coordinate in preparation for the event along with the ongoing Covid concern potentially impacting attendance, the decision to cancel was determined to be best considering the circumstances. The banquet will be rescheduled for February, 2023. TIBF Board

Idaho Jr World Championship anglers are currently fishing at Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Attending for Idaho: Gage Warren and Blake Nesset :
Gage is a straight A student and an active 4H member. When not in school or working with his animals, Gage can be found hunting and fishing and even doing a little laundry when his mom catches him before he bolts for the door. Gage harvested his first elk with a bow at age 12, and has placed in numerous adult fishing tournaments along side his dad. Gage is a Type 1 Diabetic, and his mom says his most significant accomplishment is the way he manages the responsibilities this brings with a phenomenal attitude, never allowing it to distract him from his many hobbies, goals, and dreams.
Blake Nesset, 14, is currently in 8th grade at Jenifer Junior High in Lewiston, ID. He has been obsessed with everything outdoors from an early age with hunting and fishing always on his mind. Whether it’s calling in elk during September, ducks and geese in the winter, or turkey’s in the spring, he’s always looking forward to his next hunting adventure. In between seasons and during the summer, Blake enjoys fishing of all kinds from bass fishing, to fly fishing small creeks, or chasing steelhead up our local rivers. Blake helps the local Ducks Unlimited Chapter where he can, and is also in the final stages of working toward his rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. Blake’s parents are Jeremy & Cassie, and he has a younger sister, Kyla.

The MVB Memorial Open tournament is coming up May 19 on the Golf Course Ramp on Milner. Here is a letter concerning the tournament from Brad Perkins, owner of Dry Creek Baits:
Dear Anglers!I am reaching out to all anglers of Our greater bass fishing community. I would like to invite all of you to come and be a part! of something great on May 19th this year. I am speaking of the “Memorial”. The “Memorial” Open Bass Tournament is and has been sponsored my the Magic Valley Bassmasters since 1995. Many of you have fished this tournament in the past and know how well run and organized it is and always has been. Now I would like to invite every angler to come and take part in the Memorial. Every Angler in! Our fishing Community has lost a great friend and or loved one. In this fast paced world, I feel so strongly that we should take one day a year, and come together, to fish and pay respect to our buddies that cannot fish with us anymore. I am hoping that every club will also support and back this weekend every year by leaving the “Memorial” tournament weekend off of their club tournament schedule so every Angler can support this day by fishing with your friends- for those we have lost. Many of the anglers we have lost were pioneers in the sport we love, and many were mere kids just getting started in our circle of angler friends. So I am asking that you take a moment to commit yourselves to come together May 19th and remember why we started fishing in the first place !!! It does not matter if you cannot pre fish, or if you do not feel that you are familiar with Milner, what matters is that you came to enjoy great friends, feast on a great BBQ, or maybe even luck into some prize money in the memory of someone NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN ! Thank you, and in the infamous words of Bob Behr “We’re Making Memories today boys” !!
Sincerely,!!

To All TIBF Member Clubs:The TIBF Board hopes that you all have been enjoying the 2017 Bass Fishing Season to date! The water year has certainly created some very interesting and challenging fishing conditions, however, we are still hearing about some great fish stories! It is that time again to plan for the 2017 Idaho-Montana Semi-Final Championship at Noxon Reservoir and identify your club team who will be fishing the 2017 Semi-Final Championship. I have two out of nine clubs that have given me their team names. The Board needs to submit the Idaho Angler roster to TBF in Oklahoma by August 10 including TBF Member Club teams along with the State Qualifier top eight qualifying teams. Once the roster is submitted to TBF, the online Semi-Final registration will be open August 14 through September 14. Each Angler will receive an email with a link for registration.
The inaugural ID-MT Semi-Final Championship went very well last year. If you recall, there were two Boaters and two Co-Anglers who went on to fish at the Kimberling City, Missouri, TBF Finals Championship which was due to the format change from Divisional to Semi-Final. This year one Boater and one Co-Angler will be qualifying from each State to move onto the 2018 TBF Finals. Idaho is well represented by very knowledgeable and experienced Bass Anglers as is proven over and over again starting with the Youth, High School and Adult Angler programs. Idaho is on the bass fishing map!
If you have a question about putting your club team together for this event, please don't hesitate to contact me via phone or email. I am here to help! Please keep in mind I will need your team names no later than August 10. Here is a link to the TBF National page detailing the Semi-Final Program.
Thank you to each of your for all that you do and your support of the TIBF!
Tight lines and we will see you on the water!

Article on keeping your bass alive in hot weather from www.sure-life.com. You can learn more technical information on fish care by viewing our videos on the home page of www.sure-life.com.Dear Bass Tournament Angler:
The following guidelines and instructions have been formulated in an effort to reduce initial and delayed mortality during bass tournaments. We as tournament anglers are under constant scrutiny due to high mortality rates observed from various tournament anglers and organizations. We need to make sure that we as anglers take every step and precaution to help preserve the quality of our fisheries… Please read the following instructions very carefully and do your best to implement these instructions, as you and every other angler during this event are part of a grand solution to prove that a tournament can be conducted with high bass survival rates and we can leave this lake in as good a shape as we found it. If we do not show respect and concern for this fishery and others like it, the non-angling public and regulating authorities may take action and impose tournament restrictions. Let’s do everything we can to prove that we as ANGLERS are PROS at keeping bass alive.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER LIVEWELL CARE
- ITEMS TO BRING: ICE (CUBED) MINIMUM OF 25 POUNDS
- COOLER TO KEEP ICE IN
- POOL THERMOMETER OR DIGITAL PROBE
- 16 OUNCE BOTTLE OF 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
- CATCH & RELEASE FORMULA or PLEASE RELEASE ME (10 OUNCE BOTTLE PER TEAM)
- MEASURING DEVICE FOR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
- 16 OUNCE BOTTLE 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
In an effort to provide the best possible live release during this tournament; we are encouraging you to be proactive in addressing livewell conditions ALL DAY LONG. Although the weigh in procedure is critical, your handling of the fish throughout the day is even more critical, since the fish are in YOUR POSSESSION for the majority of the time.
1. Please study the following suggestions and give them your utmost consideration. In order to properly condition a livewell, you need to know the approximate volume of your livewell. We highly recommend that you measure the dimensions of your livewell(s) ahead of time to determine gallon volume. Use the following formula to determine the water capacity of your square or rectangular livewell. Using a measuring device (tape or ruler), multiply length times width times height of water in livewell (all in feet) times the constant 7.5. The result will be in gallons.
2. Fill livewell(s) early (shortly after takeoff) from good water in main body of lake. Do not fill livewell(s) or exchange water in creeks or coves and especially NOT at take off site. HELPFUL TIP: If you have separate livewells, fill first livewell early and store bags of ice in second livewell. This will help keep the primary livewell cool. Afterwards, if you need the second livewell, it will be easier to cool down. This method will also conserve your ice.
3. IMPORTANT!!!!Treat livewell with CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME early and re-circulate for a couple of minutes to thoroughly mix. For this tournament use the following chart to determine proper amount of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME to add to your livewell. MAKE SURE YOU DOSE LIVEWELL BEFORE YOU START FISHING!!!!
GALLONS OF WATER CAPFUL(S) OF CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME FROM 10 OZ. BOTTLE
- 10-15 Gallons 2 ½ Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
- 20 Gallons 3 –3 ½ Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
- 25-30 Gallons 5 Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
- 50 Gallons 7 Capfuls of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME
1. CRITICAL!!!LIVEWELL TEMPERATURES. Please keep your livewell(s) as close as possible to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. DO NOT LET LIVEWELL TEMPERATURES EXCEED 68 degrees Fahrenheit at any time during this tournament. Check your thermometer OFTEN to make sure temperatures are in target range.
2. Add 3% hydrogen peroxide to livewell once you catch your FIRST FISH. The 3% hydrogen peroxide will provide adequate dissolved oxygen levels even if you experience livewell failure. Pay attention to the dosage rates below and do not exceed our recommendations. Repeat this procedure when you start to operate second livewell upon introduction of fish.
GALLONS OF WATER 3% HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DOSAGE RATE
- 10-15 Gallons ½ Cupful (4 Fluid Ounces)
- 20 Gallons ¾ Cupful (6 Fluid Ounces)
- 25-30 Gallons 1 Cupful (8 Fluid Ounces)
- 50 Gallons 2 Cupfuls (16 Fluid Ounces)
1. If you catch a heavy load of fish, please exchange water in livewell at least once during the day and repeat cooling of water, dosing of CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME and reapply hydrogen peroxide to livewell..
2. IMPORTANT!!!!!!!DO NOT. REPEAT. DO NOT PUMP IN FRESH WATER OR RECIRCULATE FRESH WATER THROUGHOUT THE DAY. This will defeat the purpose of cooling the water down and applications of water conditioners. DO NOT OPERATE LIVEWELLS ON TIMED AERATION. KEEP LIVEWELLS ON MANUAL RECIRCULATION CONSTANTLY.
3. DO NOT FILL WEIGH IN BAGS FROM WATER OVER THE SIDE OF BOAT AT WEIGH IN SITE!!!!Fill bags with water from treated and cooled livewells. Dip bags in livewells to fill with water or pump water from livewell through pump out pumps directly to bags as they hang off side of boat. To fill bags with water from lake at this point will totally defeat the purpose of all the work you have done in that livewell throughout the day.
4. TIPS FOR DEEP HOOKED OR WOUNDED (BLEEDING) BASS: Wet hands and try to remove hook using "through the gill method" working quickly. Do not keep bass out of water for more than 40 seconds. If having difficulty, then place bass in livewell water between procedures and allow it to breathe for a few moments and resume task of hook removal. If bass has swallowed the hook, then cut the line close as possible to hook eye and place bass in livewell. If bass is bleeding from body or gills, apply a pinch of PLEASE RELEASE ME directly to the wound. While we can’t guarantee that your bass will live, following these procedures will give them the best possible chance for survival.
5. TIPS FOR PROPERLY HANDLING FISH: Try to keep handling bass to a MINIMUM! Try not to let bass come in contact with carpet or let bass bounce around on carpet. This will cause extreme injury to the all-important slime coat or skin of the bass. If you do disrupt slime coating from this action, then this is a good time to rub some CATCH & RELEASE or PLEASE RELEASE ME on abrasion. Be cautious not to break jaws of bass. Once broken, that bass will not be able to feed again. ALWAYS hold bass in vertical position or use TWO HANDS to support body. Holding bass with single hand by way of mouth in a horizontal position without proper support will dislocate or break jaw.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July! - June 22, 2017
The Annual TIBF Military Appreciation Tournament is scheduled for July 8, 2017, at CJ Strike Reservoir launching from Black Sands ramp. There have already been bass fishing boaters who fished this event in years past asking about fishing again this year. They love to fish the event with many stating they want to come back next year! Two military personnel will be placed with a volunteer boater and there will be a "Big Fish" pot this year!! Last years event was another success and our goal this year is to have 20 volunteer boaters to accomodate 40 military personnel. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for an excellent day of fishing along with a few good men and women, please contact Scott Lepka, TIBF Vice-President, at (850)499-6119 or email lepka06@yahoo.com. Its just one more way we can extend our thanks and appreciation to our local military folks and show them we do care!
Thank you,Tammy Shuyler

Congratulations to Idaho TBF Boater, Ben Warren, for his finish on the final day of the 2017 TBF National Finals Championship in Kimberling City, Missouri. Ben competed with focus and tenacity weighing in Saturday, the final day, in 5th place. There is not a doubt in Ben's mind he gave it has all, leaving nothing on the table. Saturday followed a grueling 7 days of competition and prefishing not only against the other State and Division competitors, but against his own State Angler, Curtis McCown, Monday and Tuesday. This format was unusual for Idaho and resulted from the Divisional Championship format elimination and addition of the Semi-Final Championship format in 2016. Ben automatically qualified to fish the All-American BFL on Pickwick Lake in Alabama, June 1-2, 2017, by fishing the TBF Finals on Saturday. Ben also picked up a nice check for finishing 5th place, experienced a tournament of a lifetime and witnessed the high of becoming a top National Champion Angler winning the $100,000 “Living the Dream” package for his efforts, which includes a cash prize, fully paid entry fees on the 2018 FLW Tour as a pro, travel expense stipends for each event and use of a “Living the Dream” wrapped Ranger boat with Evinrude outboard for the year. The top Ranger owner Boater also won a new Ranger boat thru Ranger Cash program. Two other past Idaho Boater Anglers, Jason Hickey and Don Boeger, have won this opportunity to fish the BFL All-American following their top finishes at the TBF Finals. There was no doubt to the field of TBF Finals Anglers, that Idaho was "in it to win it" and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the future! Congratulations to all of Idaho Anglers, Ben Warren, Tony Shuyler, Curtis McCown and Chris Felty for qualifying to fish at the 2017 TBF National Finals tournament! You have made Idaho proud!
Tammy - April 7, 2017
It was a bit of a heartbreaker, actually tiebreaker fair and square today, at today's 2017 TBF FNC. Congratulations to Ben Warren, Idaho's TBF Boater, who qualified to fish tomorrow with a nice bag of fish, over 23lbs. He has also qualified for the BFL All American tournament set for this June at Pickwick Lake. Tony Shuyler was in the running right down to the wire after he weighed his bag and tied with Washington's Co-Angler, Higgins. When it was all said and done, Tony placed 2nd in the NW Division in a tie breaker. He caught 6 fish total yesterday and today with the Washington Co-Angler, catching 7 fish 2-day total which is the tiebreaker. Great job Idaho and Good Luck Ben! He is fishing tomorrow for the 2017 TBF National Championship, a chance at Living the Dream including wrapped Ranger Boat, pickup and FLW Tour fees paid PLUS fishing in the FLW Cup!! - April 6, 2017
Day 3 of the 2017 TBF National Finals Championship is complete, the Idaho anglers are fishing today and tomorrow against the other Northwest Region anglers to get to fish the final day on Saturday. The top Boater and Non-boater from each region get to fish the final day. Here are the Idaho results from Thursday:
Boater: 1st Place BEN WARREN 5 bass 12 lbs -00oz.
Non-boater: 3rd Place TONY SHUYLER 3 bass 6 lbs -11oz.
Go Team Idaho!!! - April 4, 2017
Day 2 of the 2017 TBF National Finals Championship is in the books. The field is now cut in half and two of the four Idaho Anglers will begin practice tomorrow in a brand new Ranger boat. Ben Warren, Boater, and Tony Shuyler, Co-Angler, will continue to represent Idaho in Day 3 of National Finals. They will have one day of practice tomorrow. Congratulations to Curtis McCown and Chris Felty in a job well done by qualifying and fishing the 2017 TBF National Finals. We are proud of you!!

The Idaho Bass Federation will host the annual Idaho Youth Bass Championships this Sunday at Lake Lowell. I have always made the attempt to let the competitors fish by themselves from a boat for the day. This creates a fair day of fishing for all the competitors.
We have 3 youth this year, and I need 3 boaters to donate their boat and time to help us out.
We will launch at 6am and weigh in at 2:00. I can give you a gift card and a cold water and hot dog lunch for your efforts.
Please give to the youth by helping out. Reply by text or call me 208 870 6650
Thanks!

Calling all Youth Age 11-15…The Idaho Bass Federation (TIBF) is holding the 2016 TIBF Youth Championship at Lake Lowell July 10, 2016. The application and rules are attached. Of importance, the entry deadline has been revised to July 1, 2016, allowing for additional time to submit an entry. Also, to participate in the event, a youth must be registered with TBF/FLW for insurance purposes. Fortunately, TBF is no longer requiring a minimum 6 registered youth for a junior club which means, a youth can register with their current junior club without the junior club having to meet the minimum active member requirement OR, if a youth is not affiliated currently with a TIBF club/junior club, that registration can be taken care when you mail in your application by simply mailing in an additional $25 to cover junior club membership registration.
The Idaho Bass Fishing community is providing several different opportunities for the Idaho youth to fish introducing to this wonderful and fascinating sport of bass fishing. This Youth event is an opportunity to introduce our young fisherman who seek to pursue their interest in bass tournament fishing, taking them to the next level of youth fishing. They will experience a level of tournament bass fishing they see their parents, peers and mentors participate in and have an opportunity as winner of this event, fish at the 2017 TBF Junior World Championship. TIBF provides some travel funding (to cover airfare, rental car, etc.) up to $800 to the winning youth/family to participate in that event. Some affiliated TIBF bass clubs may provide funding for their Juniors if they qualify to travel. TBF (National Office) provides the winning youth/family a motel room. Past winners of this event are Loren Torok, Alex Torok, David Ashton, Amber Bentley to name a few, all of whom have had the amazing opportunity to participate in the Junior World Championship and experience the Grand Daddy Tournament, Forest Wood Cup, http://www.flwfishing.com/tournaments/2016-08-04-forrest-wood-cup, which is being held this year at Huntsville, Alabama, on Wheeler Lake. Alex Torok will be representing Idaho at the 2016 Junior World Championship.
Please share the link www.IdahoBassFed.com and click on Youth for application/rules. What an opportunity for our Youth to fish and pursue their dream! Don't delay submitting the entry to Brian Ashton, TIBF Youth Director. Remember to include payment for the entry fee and $25 for TBF/FLW youth membership if you need to register to become an active TIBF Youth Member.

Idaho Parks & Recreation has a new boating safety app. “My Boat” is a web-based app that can be used to help educate boaters about the safety equipment needed for their boat. “My Boat” can be launched from a desktop PC, laptop, mobile device or tablet. There is no app to download from the Apple Store or Google Play Store – you must use one of the links provided below.
“My Boat” allows users to enter basic information about their boat and then they can print the information, download a PDF, email the information directly to themselves, or have a text message sent that will have a hotlink to the requested information.
There are two option to launch:
1) Go to www.boatidaho.gov and the “My Boat” app is located in a prominent position in the center of the web page.
2) Access directly at: https://idpr.idaho.gov/BoatSafetyFeatures/index.htmlPlease take a moment and click on the links to familiarize yourself with this app and absolutely share with other interested parties. As we all know the number one question many boaters ask is “What do I need to have on my boat for safety equipment?” “My Boat” was designed to leverage technology and get this important safety information to boaters via their preferred format.

The refuge finally released the CCP on Lake Lowell; here is the info:Hello,
The US Fish and Wildlife Service has developed the Final Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (fCCP/EIS) for Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. This is a 15-year refuge management plan. Under the selected preferred alternative, public upland and on-water recreation activities on the Lake Lowell Unit would continue, including fishing, hunting, boating, photography, hiking, and environmental education programs.
The draft CCP and EIS was available for comment from March 15 to May 15, 2013, including at several public open houses. We appreciate the comments we have received throughout the process. The final CCP/EIS addresses the comments provided on the draft CCP/EIS. The selected preferred alternative best meets the management goals and objectives by implementing scientifically grounded strategies for improving refuge wildlife habitats and providing recreational opportunities. New benefits for the public include: expanding and improving trails, off-trail access, signs, and visitor facilities for wildlife observation, photography, fishing, and hunting; continuing State coordination for fishing and hunting activities; and improving interpretive programs.
The final management plan protects wildlife by implementing seasonal closures during times when wildlife are particularly sensitive to disturbance. For example, as in the past, Lake Lowell will continue to be closed to recreation October 1 – April 14 to protect migrating and overwintering waterfowl from disturbance. The final refuge management plan represents a balance – a way to provide recreational opportunities the public desires while also protecting wildlife.
The final management plan and a summary in Planning Update 6 are posted at www.fws.gov/deerflat/Refugeplanning.html. Printed copies of the CCP are available to view at public libraries in Ada County, Boise, Caldwell, Homedale, Marsing, Nampa, and Payette, Idaho.
Requests for a copy of the draft CCP/EIS on CD-ROM can be sent by any one of the following methods. Email: deerflat@fws.gov; Fax: Attn: Annette deKnijf, (208) 467-1019; or U.S. Mail: Annette deKnijf, Refuge Manager, Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, 13751 Upper Embankment Road, Nampa, ID 83686.
Sincerely,
The Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge CCP Team

Junior World Championship Trip ReportAmber Bentley fished 11-14yo and Loren Torok fished 15-18yo from Idaho. Fishing was tough for them with Loren weighing in 1 fish and no fish for Amber. Only 1 youth in Amber's group of the Western Division weighed fish and automatically moved to the Saturday finals. If no one had weighed any fish, then oldest youth of the age group would have gone onto to fish Saturday. However, they both commented on how much they have enjoyed the opportunity to fish in JWC and agree it is a trip of a lifetime and look forward to future Youth fishing events.

Bass Rules, Bad Behavior and Lake Lowell
By Evin Oneale, Regional Conservation Educator, Southwest RegionAsk any bass fisherman in the know and they will tell you – largemouth bass fishing has never been better at Lake Lowell. Larger bass are numerous, and both bank and boat anglers are regularly catching four- and five-pound fish. Smaller, two- and three-pound fish are even more plentiful.
But all is not rosy at Lake Lowell. Rules that have helped produce the reservoir’s robust fishery are being ignored by too many anglers. In response, Fish and Game staff have stepped up efforts to minimize this behavior.
Unlike most water bodies in Idaho where general six bass limits apply, Lake Lowell’s bass population is managed under special rules. While bass fishing is allowed year-round, a catch and release provision is in place from January 1 through June 30. The second half of the year, a “slot limit” allows for a daily harvest of two bass, but none between 12 and 16 inches. The slot limit rule allows the reservoir’s slow-growing bass to reach maturity and reproduce, and so perpetuate Lake Lowell’s bass population into the future.
In 2013, Lake Lowell’s bass fishing was nearly as good as it is this year, and too many anglers either didn’t know the rules or simply chose not to abide by them. Fish and Game officers stayed busy contacting and educating anglers about the special rules. Both warnings and citations were issued to offenders.
Anticipating a robust bass fishery in 2014, Fish and Game ramped up enforcement efforts beginning April 15th, in cooperation with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It’s safe to say that Lake Lowell received more enforcement attention this spring than ever before. The high visibility enforcement effort resulted in more than 500 anglers being contacted, both on shore and on the water. Responsible anglers helped in the effort, by calling the Citizens Against Poaching hotline when they suspected illegal bass harvest. Officers were diligent in their efforts to balance education with enforcement; tickets were written as were warnings in some cases.
During the effort, many illegal, but live, fish were documented and returned to Lake Lowell. In other cases, illegal dead fish were discovered and confiscated. Officers engaged in one of several early June boat patrols discovered ten bass in two live wells. Remember that catch-and-release rules require that fish be released immediately upon being landed.
From April 15th through June 30th, 63 bass fishing violations were detected at Lake Lowell, ranging from fishing without a license to possession of illegal bass. Forty-one of those violations led to citations; warnings were written for the remainder. Sadly, most of the anglers found in violation were fully aware of the rules.
Things didn’t improve much after July 1, when the harvest and slot limit rules came to bear. Multiple violations of the slot limit were detected, clear evidence that additional education efforts are needed. To help in this effort, a new business card-sized rule card has been produced and is being distributed by enforcement and other personnel to every Lake Lowell angler contacted.
As with most enforcement efforts, responsible anglers remain a good line of defense. If you witness a suspected violation, get the details – a boat registration number or a license plate number – then call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline, 1-800-632-5999.

(January 15, 2014) – The Bass Federation (TBF), in partnership with FLW is pleased to host the 2014 Student Angler Federation (SAF) IDAHO HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP on Sunday, June 29th launching out of the Air Force Ramp on CJ Strike Reservoir near Mountain Home. The state championship is a two person team event for students in grades 9-12. Registration for anglers and their "coach," who will provide the boat they compete in, is online at HighSchoolFishing.org. Check-in is Sunday Morning June 29th at 6:00am to 6:30am with the rules meeting to immediately follow the check-in. We highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late registration fees. The weigh-in will be at 3:00pm.
"State championships allow every SAF member in North America the opportunity to fish in a championship tournament setting," TBF National Youth Director, Mark Gintert, stated. "This year, with the help of our partners at FLW, we’re expanding the program again by offering more advancement opportunities based on field size. In 2014, the top 10% of the field will advance. This rewards areas of the country working hard to grow the sport of high school fishing."
Students and parents can go to HighSchoolFishing.org for details on the Student Angler Federation (SAF) and to sign up. Cost is only $25.00 year. Membership includes full TBF and FLW benefits, FLW Magazine e-Edition and insurance coverage for clubs and students. The top 10% of each SAF state championship and the top 3 teams from any SAF National OPEN event will advance to an FLW/TBF High School Fishing Conference Championship. The top 10% of each conference championship will advance to the FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship held spring of 2015 in conjunction with a major TBF or FLW event. The National Champions win a $5,000 college scholarship to the school or their choice. All SAF members nationwide and all open and state championship participants automatically qualify for the largest event in high school fishing, the 2014 High School Fishing World Finals. At the 2013 World Finals, over $40,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded. As with all SAF national events, there is no entry fee to this come one, come all, family vacation event that gives every high school team a shot at thousands in scholarships and prizes.
If you’re not a 2014 SAF member, there’s a one-time $25/per angler fee. This includes full TBF & FLW membership for the year, as well as, free entry to ALL National SAF events!
A unique SAF event feature is the "angler testing" component. It’s not "just about fishing" but also about education. This year’s angler testing will come from TBF’s new on-line education format with Faculty of Fishing. Anglers can go to HighSchoolFishing.org and click on "Online Education" then type in their SAF number and zip code to access the FOF site. They have a host of chapters covering a wide variety of topics. "Angler testing and education is an industry first by TBF," Gintert said. "We built education into the foundation of the entire program when we began, and our partnership with FLW provides even more benefits and opportunities for them to take advantage of." Gintert continued. "For only $25 per year these young anglers and have opportunities unlike anything the industry has ever seen."

The Treasure Valley Bassmasters Open is coming up on May 3 & 4 on Lake Lowell. TVB Open Entry Form
Two IDFG employees came to the BBB Open weigh-in at Lake Lowell to survey the bass' condition and tag some fish. Here is a report back from one of the officers:You guys are not going to believe this, but……… As part of the tournament on Lowell on Saturday, we tagged about 175 bass. On Sunday, 5 of those tagged fish were poached by a single angler off of the lower dam. Luckily, a witness reported it and tickets were issued. The big bass by my flashlight was around 4. 5 pounds.
During Craig Mickelson’s and my visit on Saturday, we talked with many anglers. Many had similar stories of witnessing these sorts of activities, but few were aware of the proper protocol or channels to follow should somebody witness somebody poaching.
We implore you to inform your members of the proper protocol should they witness something similar. Help us, help you!!
- Make sure that a true poaching event is witnessed. False reports are very big time wasters. If you cannot tell for sure if it’s an illegal fish or illegal incident, DON’T call.
- Collect as many facts as possible:
- Boat or person(s) descriptions with as many details as possible (make/model, color, male/female, clothing, etc.)
- License #s (boat registration or vehicle license plate)
- Location and time
- Your name and re-contact information (should follow up be needed)
- We made a form to use to collect info if you witness a violation: IDFG Violation Form
- Call the CAP hotline (Citizens Against Poaching) and report the incident, 1-800-632-5999. This is a dispatch service that will inform the nearest available officer.
- Do not intervene yourself. Contact CAP.
IF we can respond, WE WILL. The officers simply cannot be at all places at all times and the public needs to understand that. We simply do not have enough bodies or funding to meet the demand. However, it is important that people don’t become frustrated and quit reporting incidents. We are aware that there is a problem at Lake Lowell and there are steps being taken. We NEED and WANT your help.
We have business cards that include the CAP hotline number and some incident reporting reminders. We’d like to get you a bunch of these to distribute to your anglers. We can accomplish this one of two ways. You can come to the Nampa Regional Office or HQ to pick them up or send me an physical mailing address. Every tournament angler should have one in their wallet.
Please feel free to forward this message to your club presidents and members. We certainly didn’t have an all-inclusive list, so please forward to anyone you can think of.

The Annual TIBF banquet is in the books. What a turnout! Attendees filled the room (new this year, bigger and better) with comraderie andcheer leading to, yet again, another successful banquet! The highlights of the evening included Guestspeaker Jimmy Reese, 2014 Idaho State Team introduction and Don Boeger Tribute, filled everyone with optimism and thankfulness, knowing that we have the opportunity to participate in the great sport of bass fishing at the State and National level and having known
one of the best, Don Boeger, who exemplified all the traits we ultimately strive for in bass fishing and our lives. We also were introduced to the Youth Champions, Loren Torok and Chandler McRay, who are our up and coming bassers with dreams and great expectations to be there right along with our State Team and Jimmy Reese's of our sport. David Ashton, youngest State Team member, is a perfect example of how this all works, and Idaho is proud to support the Youth to facilitate those dreams. The mantra, Youth-Fishing-Conservation-Community was truly represented in last nights event by all those present. Thank you to each of you!
Good luck to the Idaho State Team, Tony Shuyler, Josh Polfer, Jared Lord, Kyle Gelles, Brandon Craner, Davanh Sengsourinho, Randy Miller, David Ashton, Chuck Caba, Chad Kaiser, Josh Ragan, and Ethan Peterson, at Divisionals in Flaming Gorge, Youth Loren and Chandler at Nationals in August and to Jimmy Reese, who will once again, be fishing the FLW Tour. Thank you to our sponsors Canyon Marine, Dry Creek Outfitters, Dobyns, HumminBird, MinnKota, Howards Tackle Shoppe, J/H Sales and Marine, KingFisher Sporting Goods & Pawn, FLW Outdoors, Ranger Boats, Lowrance, SolarBat and Evinrude.

Oregon has updated their bass fishing tournament permit process: Revised Oregon Tournament Guide.
There are changes in for OSP and OFW contacts and clarifications for permitting process for small tournaments and large tournaments. Terry Shrader remains the Biologist contact for large tournaments. Tim Daly is the contact for the small club tournaments and he is in LaGrande. We now have a different OSP contact, Don Wagner.
Terry said there are no fees for large tournaments. However, we need to submit the tournament application and also apply for Marine Permit which is the same. The difference is no fees. These permits need to be submitted no less than 30 days of tournament date. Note also there can be limitations for number of large tournaments. There are usually no limitations for small tournaments and notification is no less than 10 days but they will usually be ok within shorter notice. The key is notifying them. November 1 is soonest they can receive a large permit app for consideration. Any other apps for same day will be declined. There is a fishing report that can be submitted to the biologists following the tournament (similar to Idaho) but not mandatory.

The 2014 Major Event date setting meeting will be held on Nov. 14th at 7pm at Cabelas; it will be held in the same conference room as last year.

Hello! I am assisting with organizing the potluck dinner reception following Don’s service on Wednesday. The reception will be held in the Garden at the Civic Center which is an outdoor venue where events such as Octoberfest are held, an otherwise large space for what is expected to be a big gathering. Fortunately, we will be able to have a potluck dinner with some food being catered by the Civic Center. As you know, Don loved Mexican food and I will have the catered food be of Mexican origin. However, we welcome any potluck dish anyone wishes to provide. We wish that the reception will be a time of celebration and comraderie among all friends and family in attendance….Don would have wanted it that way! Don's Obituary

Scales of Justice Thank YouWhat a great day for fishing and fun! Once again, our annual Scales of Justice Bass Fishing Tournament was a grand success!! The kids had THE biggest smiles on their faces when they returned from their day on the water. They were all proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed seeing how their fellow fisherman fared on the water. Some were truly giddy with excitement. Of course there were a few that weren’t so keen on holding their fish by the gills…no matter how good Summer’s instructions were… the fish ended up enjoying some land time.
If you didn’t attend this year, you missed out on another fun AND rewarding ACJCS event, but you’ll have another chance in 2013.
Thanks to ALL of the witnesses, volunteers and of course the boaters! An extra special thanks to the SOJ team of organizers, led by Ken Jenkins. You guys worked miracles….you’re the best!

Job opening:My name is Bill Schwarz, and I am a bass tournament angler like you and your State TBF members. I am reaching out to you hoping that our common interest in fishing might allow me to ask a favor.
I co-own the largest 100% digital fishing magazine in North American (called ODU MagazineT), and we are looking forward to growing our team. We have great writers like David A. Brown, Vic Attardo, Bill Vanderford and the great Ray Scott himself. But, we need someone to fill the shoes of an internet advertising sales manager.
This position is vital to our growth, but also will afford the person who can do this position the opportunity to work in the sport fishing industry. This is not an easy job! This job means work. However, the benefits are very good; to include having the opportunity to attend ICAST, attend other sporting shows, attend the Classic or the SHOT show for starters.
I am hoping you would tell your members in your Federation or post this for us.
Basics of the internet advertising sales manager's responsibilities: meet all sales projections, create and maintain industry and non-endemic contacts, become a part of the team that grows ODU Magazine.

While I was in Arkansas for TBF Nationals I got a call from a reporter for Boise Weekly. He had talked to me at the Sportsmans Show and said he wanted to do a store on bass fishing in Idaho and would call me at a later date. I was presented with a copy of the May 30 - June 5 issue today and he has written the story and I thought it was quite well done. Hopefully it helps the public understand more of what we do.

May Minutes - May 20, 2012
The second annual High School Fishing Championship was held May 12th at C.J. Strike reservoir in Idaho. Eight teams competed this year, doubling that of only four teams the previous year. The weather was calm and warm, perfect for the youth anglers to showcase their talents on a sometimes difficult lake to fish. This years tournament fell on the day after the Western Divisional tournament, so the water had its share of fishing pressure. As the day came to a close, the anglers managed to find their fish, and all the fishermen (and fisherladies) made it back safely to the ramp. Here are the results;
1st place David Ashton and Jake Beahm 14lb 9oz
2nd place Brothers Loren and Blake Torok 10lb 7oz
3rd place Jon Hickey and Anthony Baracko 9lb 11ozA special thank you goes out to the staff of the Idaho Bass Federation for assisting in this tournament.

Everyone
Please get the word out that entries for the TIBF Youth Championship in August is due in Brian's hands by May 25th. This is a great opportunity for a young person to help themselves with their college expenses.
Thanks,

Saturday May 12th C J Strike Reservoir at 5:30 AM 10 members of The Idaho Bass Federation assembled at the Air Force Ramp to welcome members of the Idaho National Guard to conduct a Soldier Appreciation Tournament.
These events are held during each stop of the FLW Tour. Idaho is not currently on a schedule to host a tour event and The Idaho Bass Federation was asked to do so. Without question we agreed. The original attempt to schedule the event in 2011 came at the time when guardsmen from Gowen Field were in the process of returning from Iraq and the event needed to be rescheduled for 2012. The timing worked well to coordinate the event with the Northwest Division Championship. Once the proper authorities at Gowen Field were contacted and briefed the event field filled within a couple of hours.
Format for the event is ten boats with a federation angler for captain and two soldiers fishing as a team with help from the boat captain. There is no money involved but a nice plaque is awarded and bragging rights show up all over the event.
At the end of the day all of the guard members agreed that they had enjoyed the day on the boats but they were ready to dine on some of Davanh Sengsourinho’s finest offerings. Approximately an hour and a half after the weigh-in was complete all sat down for a great meal to end the day.
Our special thanks to TIBF members, Jared Spicklemier, Steve Spicklemier, Steve Spear, Davanh Sengsourinho, Larry Burton, Chris Horton, Victor Azevido, Steve Day, D J Clapp, and Steve Jones for volunteering their time and boats to show these soldiers a great day.
Special thanks, to every one of the guard members who participated in this event. Your service to our country, leaves us all with a debt that we will never adequately pay.
Here are the Soldier Appreciation tournament results; as soon as I get the rest of the pictures from the tournament I will make a seperate webpage and post a link to it.
May God bless you all.
Bruce - Mothers Day Sunday May 13, 2012
I have just had the privilege of spending one of the most glorious weeks in the history of The Idaho Bass Federation.
The week began with the arrival of TBF teams from the states of Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho to Mountain Home to compete in the 2012 Northwest Division Federation Championship at C J Strike Reservoir. Official practice began on Sunday May 6th with a day ending welcome BBQ hosted by the businesses of Mountain Home. Everyone left that meal knowing that they had been well fed and were welcome into the community. Official practice continued through Monday and ended at 2 PM on Tuesday.
Team registration followed at 5 PM with a nice banquet meal again, provided by the business of Mountain Home and the Boise Cabela’s store. Rules briefing and pairings for the first day of competition followed with anglers departing to their respective rooms to sleep lightly in anticipation of the next day’s competition.
Wednesday’s dawn graced us with clear sunny skies and an afternoon temperature that reached the high 70’s. Official weigh-in began at 2:30 PM and it was soon evident that fishing at C J Strike could not have been better. Nearly every angler weighed a full limit of 5 fish and some very nice weights topped by Jason Hickey of Team Idaho with 5 smallmouth weighing 20 lbs. and 3 oz.; a tremendous bag of smallmouth on any body of water. At the end of the day Idaho led the event by 57 pounds.
Day one weather went down hill quickly early Thursday morning. With winds already howling, a successful launch from the Air Force Ramp began the day as anglers made their way to any semi-protected area of the reservoir. Within about an hour of launch word was received that Douglas Stiffarm of Team Montana and Bob Wright of Team Wyoming were swamped in their boat in the Bruneau pool. The Owyhee County Sheriff responded and assured that the anglers were safe. The boat was recovered that evening and it was apparent that damage was devastating. By the end of weigh-in on day two Team Idaho had extended their overall lead by 18 pounds. Weights were considerably lower on day two with muddied water as the result of wind gusts as high as 50 mph and extremely tough conditions. Fish that Jason Hickey found on day 1 seemed to disappear allowing Eric Lippincott of Team Wyoming to assume the over all lead. Keegan Grave of Team Idaho excelled on day 2 with an extremely long run in very difficult conditions to move up in the standings to third place overall.
To everyone’s relief the winds died down for launch on Friday morning and Team Idaho set off to maintain their lead and win the team title. The weather held throughout day three and the catch rate again showed most anglers with good bags. Eric Lippincott maintained his lead at day’s end winning the overall individual title by 4 lbs. and 1 oz while Team Idaho extended their lead to 80 pounds and 1 oz. Idaho beat the home field curse by doing this and brings the Northwest Division Championship title home for the second year in the last three. Our record in the last 4 years is two second place finishes and two championships with one of the second place finishes showing a slightly more than one pound finish out of first place.
Congratulations go to Jason Hickey who will represent us at the Bass Federation National Championship next Spring as a boater and Keegan Graves who will represent us as a co-angler. Other members of the team who should be recognized for their contributions to our success are; Chad Kaiser, Don Dethloff, Mike Klein, Mark Vanelderen, Brandon Craner, Don Boeger, Jared Lord, Chris Felty, Earl Wells, and Eddie Garcia. Please pass your congratulations and appreciation on to each of these anglers for their stellar performances during last week’s tournament.
Even though the team gets the awards there are a great number of people who deserve special recognition for their contribution to last week’s success. Mark and Bev Roberts who provided enough equipment for multiple events, as well as 4:30 am trips to the launch ramp to prepare for blast off. Scyler Hill for his diligent duties handling the release boat throughout the week. Denton Crofts for delivering the release boat and staying to help with weigh-ins each day. Chuck Caba who was there morning and afternoon for launch and weigh-in. Michael Tauscher for his dedication each day and certainly his Dutch oven dessert. Steve Jones and Steve Day were also available for helping at certain times and we owe them a great amount of thanks. I believe that my wife Cindy deserves special thanks for her multiple hours in preparing food prior to departing for Strike and the time spent finishing that food and the clean up that followed each night that Idaho anglers and volunteers enjoyed. I know that I have likely forgot to mention someone who was instrumental during the week and I hope those folks can recognize that I will probably remember them when my mind returns to normal function.

Here is an article from an Okuma newsletter:The Bass Federation-A Model Of Success
Youth, Conservation, Fishing, the foundation principles of The Bass Federation. If there are three better concepts to build an organization around, we have yet to see it. Okuma believes heavily in the Federation model. It’s important. And because of that we sponsor the State Federations of Florida, Rhode Island, Arkansas, Virginia, Tennessee, Utah, Northeast Mississippi and Idaho. These groups don’t ask for much, and return far more to the sport than they ever take from it. We’re very proud to be involved and appreciative of the feedback we receive, from photos to product feedback on rods and reels like Komodo, Citrix, Krios, Helios, EVx and more.
Since 1968, the independent state bass Federations have worked together to support the grassroots growth of fishing and the growth of the entire sport fishing/outdoors industry in their states. If you’re an avid bass angler, there’s little doubt that you’re already familiar with The Bass Federation. If your new to the sport, or simply haven’t connected with an organization, the following outline, provided by the The Bass Federation, provides a lot to look forward to.
The Bass Federation
TBF is a 100% member owned company; it’s owned, controlled and governed by its members through their home state federations like The Idaho Bass Federation. The "federation," TBF, is the oldest and largest organized grassroots fishing organization in America, the only member owned national fishing organization. Our sole purpose is to support our core values, which we have held for more than 40 years; youth, conservation and fishing.
TBF is made up of individuals and groups that believe in the organization and its future as a way a life, not just a company, but a "family." As a family, TBF’s members step up as club leaders, officers and presidents all over the country, without these volunteers TBF could never be successful. Unlike other companies, TBF’s national office line is always open, and there’s never, never an automated response. The TBF family takes care of its family.
A great bunch of kids involved in the sport thanks to an exceptional group of adults. There will never be "an app" for this. TBF’s sponsor partners make the federation unique in the industry, as well as, successful long-term. They offer federation members and their clubs an array of member benefits and opportunities. TBF’s sponsors partners make it possible for TBF to pay back 100% of membership dues to member programs, which include industry leading insurance coverage, a host of No–Entry Fee events, a TBF member-only online store, individual member discounts, falling price auctions, tons of special offers, and massive support of their youth, conservation, state team, and state federations. Taking advantage of one or more benefits can save any member more money than their yearly dues costs to belong to BOTH TBF and FLW Outdoors, plus so much more.
Speaking of tournament opportunities, on a national average a TBF member pays less than $200 a year in total TBF member dues and entry fees to fish through their state, to the divisional, the Federation National Championship, the BFL All-American and the Forrest Wood Cup. You cannot fish for less anywhere…. on any circuit, much less one that offers berths in the biggest events in the business. It really does pay to belong to TBF.
There's a lot more to the The Idaho Bass Federation than competitive tournaments and Okuma is very proud to have their state team wearing our jerseys.
Though being a TBF member is a bargain unequaled in the industry, TBF is about so much more. The federation is youth, conservation and fishing, not just tournaments. It is about the next generation, conserving our natural resources, fighting for clean water, as well as, saving money and qualifying to advance. All those things are important to the federation but they do not define what the federation is. The fun and camaraderie and the family-feel is what TBF is all about. Fishing for fun and bragging rights with life-long federation friends, and protecting the future of fishing and the rights to fish with our kids and grandkids is why TBF has grown and has continued to grow all these years. Family and fishing is why TBF exists; it exists 100% for its members and to support the things, the sport, they love. And like its members, TBF will continue to support the sport of fishing for decades to come.

Hey all,This Sunday we are having a benefit tournament at CJ Strike, Black Sands Ramp..... One of our fellow fishermen, John Stocke, has come on some difficult times. He is dealing with cancer and it has taken a toll on his finacial state.
A raffle and BBQ will take place in the afternoon. All money from the entry and raffle will go to the John Stocke Fund. This is tax deductable so the winner will have a reciept delivered to them for use on thier taxes next year.
Please take a minute to look at the flyer and consider what a difference you can make at this difficult time. If for some reason you can't make it out, there is also bank information on the flyer on how to simply drop by a US Bank and throw a few dollars in the fund.
We all go through life facing the same reality. the day may come that we just can't get through; John has worked hard with his plumbing business and today finds that he can't even work due to this disease.
Do today and expect nothing in return; For someday you will recieve the return on what you did !!
Hope to see ya there !!

Idaho contenders are Don Boeger as angler and Chris Horton as co-angler. Both competed in the 2010 Idaho qualifier series to earn spots on the state team. They then traveled to Hood River, Oregon in 2011 to compete in the Northwest Division Federation Championship. By finishing first and second for the Idaho team at that event they became qualified to fish in this weeks tournament. You can watch live streaming weigh-ins beginning Thursday by going to www.bassfederation.com. You will be directed from that site to the location for the streaming network. Your support for Don and Chris may be the extra push needed to assure that they finish well enough to fish on Saturday.
Bruce - March 27, 2012
Don't forget that the TBF National Championship is this week! Don Boeger and Chris Horton are going to representing Idaho while fishing Bull Shoals. The tournament is Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The weigh-ins for the first two days will be streamed live on the TBF website. The top two anglers from each division will get to fish the last day and that weigh-in will be streamed live on the FLW website. Watch the weigh-in and cheer our anglers on! - March 25, 2012

On April 21st a clean up project is planned for Farewell Bend State Park in Oregon. The bass fishing community in Idaho has been asked to participate and we are committed to do so. REMEMBER, OREGON STATE PARKS HAS WAIVED OUR FEES FOR HOLDING TOURNAMENTS SAVING CLUBS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS PER YEAR. We owe them our presence at this clean up event. We would like to have a minimum of 10 people participate and will try to coordinate transportation among ourselves so that we cheat the oil companies out of their $4.00 a gallon fuel. Circulate this among your club membership and get back to me ASAP with those who will participate so we can arrange meeting points.
I am told that lunch will be served at this event. Hotdogs anyone?????
Thanks,

This information is for those who may be staying at Hilton Garden Inn for the banquet. We have been given a special rate of $79 for those attending the banquet. For some reason the front desk of the hotel did not have that information available until today. If you call and reserve be sure to tell them you are with the bass federation to get that special rate. Also note that all reservations must be made by the 15th to have the special rate honored. We are looking forward to a great event and from all indications all of your best friends will be attending. I am looking forward to everyone attending.

June 9, 2012 is the South Qualifier out of Farewell Bend on Brownlee Reservoir. June 10, 2012 is the Jack N Jill Tournament out of the same location.
This morning I went on line to make a reservation and was shocked out of my shoes to find that at least half of the park is not available. The C Loop had 4 places available and I took one. That means there are 3 left. I prefer that loop as access to sites is easier and they are for the most part longer than those in B Loop. B Loop still has many sites available.
For those planning to attend either of these events a reservation made right away may be a good move.
Reservations are made through www.reserveamerica.com

WANTEDA member of The Idaho Bass Federation desiring to assume a position of leadership and responsibility. This position will afford the applicant opportunities to visit some of the best fishing waters in the area. They will also enjoy spending weekends at beautiful goat head and cheat grass filled campgrounds. This will be preceded by the opportunity to spend many, many hours on the phone. During several times of the year applicant will make numerous trips to answer the door bell at all hours to attend to other members needs.
Position Requirements: Must have recent psychiatric examination proving that you are currently sane and the ability to pay for another psychiatric examination at year end to prove the elevator still goes to the top floor. In spite of the sanity question applicant will be required to make multiple decisions that most will not like and these decisions must be made under great pressure and time constraints.
Salary: Does not depend on your experience. In fact, there is no salary.
We are looking for an individual willing to act as Tournament Director for the Southwest Region. The position is best filled by someone who is not actually planning to participate in the qualifier tournaments and it helps if there is another family member who can help with weigh-ins and possible book keeping duties. Additional family member must be as thick skinned as applicant to shed the frequent discussions held within earshot regarding the applicant’s short comings.
Doesn’t this sound like the type of job for you? Every member should spend a year in this position. Please contact Bruce to express your lack of sensibilities.

Hello Folks…As we often think back and reflect about our lives, we recall those particular people who “Made a Difference” to us personally. Whether that time was a small or great impact, the important part is that it did “Make a Difference”.

Scales of Justice Application - July 29, 2011
Everyone,It is getting down to crunch time and a lot of people who have put in a lot of work over the last few months need your help.
The Scales of Justice Tournament is scheduled for September 17th on C J Strike Reservoir As of this date there are 2 I REPEAT 2 boaters entered and agreeing to take at risk youth from the juvenile court systems of Minnidoka, Malhuer, Gem, Canyon and Ada counties. Yes this is no longer just an Ada County event and sponsors of the event need your help.
As always, no youth can be allowed a slot to participate until there is a boat for them to ride in. Entry forms were mailed to every person who has participated in any of the last 6 events about 6 weeks ago and only 2 I REPEAT 2 boaters have returned them.
Please do not waste any more time and fill out the entry and return per the directions on the form. Club reps and presidents please send this message on to your club members and ask them to participate in a fun and worthwhile event.
Thanks,

Everyone,Attached is the final proposal for Lake Lowell that we have spent the last 6 weeks working on. Also attached is a letter to the manager of Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge. Please print the letter, sign it with your address included and mail to the refuge. If every recipient of this message will do that we can make an impact. If you are waiting for someone else to save the lake for you it is already lost. Only you can save the lake.
If you prefer not to mail the letter it can be brought to the meeting at Western Marine on Thursday July 21st at 7 pm. Jennifer will be there to address all who will attend and to take questions from us. Because of a lack of seating please bring your camp chair and prepare to be amazed at the lack of science used to make their proposals.
Again, we would like to fill the room (will it take 500 to do so?) The more people we put in front of her the larger the impact we will make. Please plan to attend. It is important.
Thanks,
Bruce - July 13, 2011

The Snake River Bassmasters are having their annual Harold Martin Memorial Hot Summer Nights tournament on Owyhee Reservoir on August 13. Remeber, the big fish are usually more active at night! Here is a Printable HSN Entry Form. - July 7, 2011
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE. Most of you know that management at Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge (Lake Lowell) is in the process of developing a 15 year Comprehensive Conservation Plan that will dictate the use of the lake. You may view these proposals at the Deer Flat Refuge web site or visit www.savelakelowell.com. If you are a user of the lake and able to find anything of value in the preferred proposals, I am sorry to bother you with this message. If you are as concerned as many of us are please read further.
Your input is needed to ensure the long term use of the lake. I have attached the final proposal that a group of us have developed. We believe it ensures continued use of the lake even though it is not what we prefer (we would like the current usage). If you do nothing else comment to the refuge that you endorse the Action Alternative Proposal #5.
On Saturday, July 9th participate in the parade from Karcher Mall to the lake. This event is receiving wide spread local news coverage and is expected to gain national attention. Gather behind Karcher Mall beginning at 9 am.
On Thursday July 21st refuge managers are scheduled to address The Idaho Bass Federation membership and all interested parties. Please plan to attend. This meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm at Western Marine in Nampa. Refuge staff will likely present their proposals and open the floor for questions. I am sure you will have many questions so do not hesitate to ask. Please bring a chair since the meeting area is actually a show room and not equipped for more than a few people and we will not ask the ownership to rent chairs for this event.
We have presented this proposal to lake management with the information that it was supported by 500 or more anglers. If the turnout for this meeting is limited in numbers management staff will believe that there really is no support. NONE OF US CAN AFFORD TO ALLOW THEM TO HARBOR THAT BELIEF.
PLEASE PUT THESE DATES AND TIMES ON YOUR CALENDAR AND PLAN ON PARTICIPATING.
Thank you,
Bruce - July 7, 2011

Walcott #3 Qualifier Results
American Falls #4 Qualifier Results - June 28, 2011
Everyone:,I am sending the attached information in the hopes that you will share it with everyone you know. If you are not already versed on the proposed plans for Lake Lowell please familiarize yourself with them and take action. These type of plans are being developed for every refuge in the country (is anyone aware of a planning process at Lake Walcott?) If any of the proposed plans for Lake Lowell become finalized I am not sure that any of us will ever bother to launch there again. Club presidents and reps please take this to your next club meeting and push for your members to participate in this parade.
We are in the final processes of developing an alternative plan that we will present to the management of the lake as well as every government official that we think will help us to offset the proposals from FWS. That plan should be finalized in the next few days. We will forward that plan to you and ask that you forward the plan with your personal endorsement to the same parties listed above.
Other planned activities to save the lake include a presentation by lake management at Nampa City Hall on June 30th at 7 pm. This meeting will be held in the city council chambers and is open to the public. Please urge everyone you know to attend this meeting. As we currently know it, these meetings are being held with very poor turnout. I believe this is what lake management wants. Let's help fill the council chambers. I will personally stand if it means you get a seat, just get there.
On July 21st Jennifer Scott-Brown, the manager at Deer Flat is scheduled to address The Idaho Bass Federation at 7 pm at Western Marine. We must fill the room. Due to a lack of seating you are encouraged to bring your own camp chair, folding chair etc. The last opportunity for open comment is to be July 29th. Please take action now and plan to attend these meetings and by all means you MUST comment.
Thanks,
Bruce - June 28, 2011

Hey Guys,So there has been a date change for the Iaconelli event. Here is the info.
Mike will be at Snake River Outdoor Sports located at 1570 North Yellowstone, Pocatello, Idaho on June 25th. We don't have the exact times down yet. But that date is set. Also to go along with this, if anyone is interested in having lunch with Mike, they are going to allow about 12 people pay somewhere around $125 to have lunch with Mike without anyone else there. For the $125 you will get an Abu Garcia Veritas Rod along with lunch. Once I have more information I will pass it along. If you could also have anyone that is interested in coming to the event to email or call me so I can get a tentative head count. Thanks for your help.

Here is the 2011 Jack & Jill tournament entry form. - March 30, 2011
As most of you are aware The Idaho Bass Federation Youth Championship is approaching on May 21st at Cascade Reservoir and there are several important dates leading up to the event.April 5th is just days away and that is the first cutoff day to get entries to Brian Ashton.
April 25th is the absolute deadline. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THAT DATE!! Additionally all entries received from April 6th to April 25th will have a $25 late charge assessed.
All youth participants must be premium youth members of TBF which is a $25 membership and includes FLW membership.
Why all of the deadlines and demands to do this now? I don't know if my kid wants to fish or not? It might be a lousy pre-fish so why should I commit before I know? And for all of the other questions that may be in your minds here are some answers.
Brian has put in an extreme amount of time and effort to facilitate this event with sponsors and full planning of a bbq and other things that will make this a premier event for the kids who participate. In order for him to assure a proper number of boats to accommodate the participants he must know early enough to beat up on the adult members to be there. Without the adult participation there is no youth event and we have struggled in the past to get the adults there so Brian is adding a lot of incentive for them by paying for the fuel for the weekend and at $3.50 or more a gallon that is on top of everyone's mind.
The May event will send winners to the National Guard Junior World Championship in late summer. Winners of that event get a major boost in paying for their college education. No other youth program that I know of in this country offers the same opportunity at such a nominal cost. I have grandchildren who participate in every type of youth sport and in some cases they are costing their parents thousands of dollars per year. Total cost to participate in this event is $50 per youth. If they win here and go on, TIBF has set aside funds to offset the cost of travel to the National championship and I am not aware of any other program that does so. Upon arrival at the National event the kids and a family member are cared for in a superior way by TBF and FLW with great housing and most meals. The kids are treated like superstars and top finishers share the stage with FLW Cup contenders at their weigh-in. It makes for a great time by the kids and their family members who participate.
Please rush this information to all of your members and especially those who may have kids or grandkids interested in participating. The entry form is available here or under the youth tab on the left side menu.
If you or your members have questions please contact Brian Ashton.
Regards,
Bruce - March 30, 2011
Please print the attached document and share with your club members at your next meeting. Hopefully this information will prompt a thorough discussion of safety measures that we can all take in all our events. Everyone:Word on sponsors is coming in pretty frequently and I will keep you up to date as much as possible.
I now have in front of me the full sponsorship program with Cabela's for both national and state level. It is a very firm contract that is not exclusive to any state but I will be signing it.
The reason for this message is to ask each of you to visit Cabela's Angler Cash There is money that will come to state federation anglers much like Ranger Cup does currently. Even if you are not a member who participates in Federation Qualifier tournaments you should sign up. There is no charge for signing up and by doing so it will benefit the state.
Pure Fishing (Berkley, Abu Garcia, Stren, Trilene, Penn, All Star Rods etc) has signed with TBF at a higher level of sponsorship than their 2010 contract. Exactly what this means to the state is yet to be determined but we do know that individual members benefit greatly from this sponsorship.
Any current TIBF member can go to The Bass Federation website, click on the "Store" link, set up an account and start shopping. Through personal experience with this process I will attest to the deals that are available with this process. I frequently look at what is in the TBF store and realize that there are often tremendous bargains available. Contact Bruce for the TBF discount code.
Please get this information to your club members.
Thanks,

We are scheduled to do the concrete pour for the Cascade Project on March 12th at 9:30 am at Olsen Concrete in Cascade. This is located about 7 miles south of Cascade on the right side of Hiway 55. There is no forewarning that you are coming to the plant however some equipment is usually visible from the road. I will be in Arizona most of next week and immediately upon my return I must go to McCall to fulfill a commitment to a customer (I hate work) so I will not be able to participate in this project. Steve Jones, Conservation Director will head up the project and hopefully those people who participated last year will give Steve some direction. Those from the Boise area will meet those coming from the Western part of the valley at the Chevron/Subway in Horseshoe Bend at 8:30 am. At that point I recommend that everyone carpool ($3.29 gas ain't cheap). We have some needs to accomplish this task. Bring your shovel, dipping concrete with your hands sucks and there is water available to clean the tools. Someone brought a wheelbarrow last year, if it was you please bring it again but remember PUT AIR IN THE TIRES. If it was not you and you have a wheelbarrow available please bring it, remember it can be cleaned up at the plant after the job is complete. Someone please bring a camera and take some pictures.
It does not appear that we will be getting any of that good cheap "FREE" poly pipe this year. Pat Patterson has arranged a good deal for 5,000 feet of 3/4" for a cost of $654. Can anyone else get the pipe donated or for a better price? Our conservation budget can absorb this cost but "FREE" is always better. If you have contacts that can help with this need please see what can be done and let me know before I have Pat pick up the pipe.
John Wadsworth has arranged for the donation of 125 concrete blocks and will transport them to the plant on the day of the pour. Thanks to John for his efforts on this project.
Following the pour I suggest that you treat yourselves to lunch at a local café and with the approval of Tammy or Brandon I suggest that the conservation fund cover that cost. Please note that I was told Tom Olsen's wife owned one of the cafes in town. Someone try to find out which one it is and make sure that is where you go for lunch. We offered to buy him lunch last year and he did not accept and it may have been that we were going to a competitor café.
Please let me know if you will be participating in this project and any of your club member names.
Thanks,

Hello Everyone,After getting several phone calls concerning the extreme cold weather forecast this weekend and in hopes to better the participation at the Dave Withers Derby, and talking to the other club Presidents, we have decided to change the date of this event to March 5th; same time, same place. Sorry if this is not good for some, but we think it will be better for most. I hope to see you In Hagerman and that the weather is much better than this weekend.
Also remember that Brad's Sale starts Monday and goes all week long, I know that Brad would be very happy to see you and appreciate the business. Brad has some new baits that look really good and allot of really good deals.
If you have any questions on the Dave Withers Event please give me a call 208-539-1346 If I do not answer during work hours then please leave a message and I will call you back on break or after work.
Thanks again,

Everyone:
I had a long conversation with Ben Cox at Farewell Bend State Park today and I am passing on the gist of that conversation. For this year club tournaments (under 25 boats) do not have to pay a $25 permit fee.
Large events (25 or more boats or 50 or more people will require a $100 permit plus a per person fee). I had applied for a permit for the TBF Qualifier and Jack and Jill tournament at Lake Owyhee expecting as many as 80 people for Jack and Jill. In 2011 that permit will cost $25 however in 2012 that same permit will cost $150
We are asked to no longer weigh in at the location we have used for a number of years (the peninsula where the old concession store was located) but to move all weigh-ins to the upper parking area. Picnics and BBQ's are still welcome to utilize the area that we have always used.
The park will accept the insurance form for TBF clubs that I will attempt to get to cover all club events. If you are having an event at Farewell Bend or Owyhee contact me about the general form and I will forward to you by e mail once I have received it so there is no longer a need for you to apply directly to the insurance company for each event.
Letter from Ben Cox of Oregon Parks on Bass Tournaments held on Owyhee or at Farewell Bend. Thanks,

TBF “No Entry Fee” Divisional Championship Series Back in 2011
Information on the Series - January 7, 2011
Qualifier Date Change
The TBF Qualifier Tournament originally scheduled for May 7 on Brownlee Reservoir out of Spring Rec has been moved to April 9th and will launch from Woodhead Park.Several factors were taken into consideration in making this move. In a high run off year the water levels at Brownlee are normally held at very low levels until late May or even June before the reservoir begins to fill making the likelihood of a safe launch at Spring Rec to be questionable. Superior Bass has normally had an event out of Woodhead on the April date but they will not operate there this year. The fishery at Brownlee has suffered for the last few years but it has customarily been better in very early spring and the new date will hopefully improve this event.
Thanks,

Deer Flat Planning Update 2 DocumentIt is apparent that some comments being received want to remove all motorized boats from the lake. It is up to us to continue letting the refuge know that we are not willing to go along with such a restriction and the only way we have to do that is to continue making comments. Please make sure you continue to comment.
Thanks,
BruceFrom an e-mail from Deer Flat Refuge:
